Elengy is proud to announce the terminal will continue operating the site after 2020

17 January 2020

Following Elengy's call for subscriptions in February 2019 for capacities at the Fos Tonkin terminal post 2020 (Open Season Fos 2021), the company is proud to announce the terminal will continue operating the site until 2028.

The proposed regasification capacity has been entirely booked, i.e. 1.5 billion m3 per year. This commitment has enabled Elengy to take the investment decision needed to extend the site's activity beyond 2020.

New prospects with the development of retail LNG services
The Fos Tonkin LNG terminal can evolve as a true multimodal platform in the western Mediterranean basin as it has significant assets enabling to offer a diversity of LNG services to its customers: rail, road, river and sea. In addition to the unloading and loading of LNG tankers, the terminal can offer the reloading of bunkering vessels.

A new challenge: the development of LNG as fuel in the Mediterranean...
Elengy is convinced that Fos Tonkin is a key asset to support the energy transition. As a result, the company is now working on the development of the loading capacities for small LNG vessels in order to provide the market with the required services to support the growth of LNG as marine fuel. This is seen as a critical step for reduction of polluting emissions generated by maritime transport, particularly in ports and on the coast. Moreover the Fos Tonkin terminal is ideally located to supply LNG to a large number of ports and islands of the western Mediterranean.

... and studies to transport LNG by rail as close as possible to users
In the future, Fos Tonkin could also become a loading point for trains to supply LNG intermediate storage sites outside LNG terminals. Elengy has already launched the necessary studies for rail connections. Thanks to its proximity to other multimodal platforms, Fos Tonkin could provide solutions for loading LNG on the train or river barges. This project demonstrates Elengy's commitment to accelerating the energy transition for mobility.
