Compliance with European directives
Elengy's activities and commercial practices fall within the scope of European directive 2003/55/EC of 26 June 2003 concerning common rules for the internal market in natural gas. This directive was unanimously adopted by all European Union member states on 22 June 1998.
Commonly known as the « Directive Gaz », la directive Européenne 2003/55/CE lays down the basic principles for the creation of a single market aimed at "guaranteeing the free movement of gas and reinforcing security of supply and industrial competitiveness in Europe".
The common rules of this directive are as follows:
- Create a single (integrated) natural gas market in Europe, one that is competitive and regulated on a European Union scale,
- Increase the competitiveness of European companies with respect to international competitors,
- Improve the overall efficiency of the gas sector and ensure consumers – be they private or corporate – have the option to freely choose their supplier.
